Bill’s Tapes is a personal project.
Coming out of college in the late 1940s, my grandfather Bill had dreamed of finding a job as a radio DJ (he had the voice for it) but after returning from the Korean War, he made a practical choice and became… an insurance salesman.
Then, starting in the '90s he got the itch again and started making a tape archive of all the music he would have loved to play on the radio. Nobody in our family really knew about his tapes until a chance conversation with my grandmother revealed—"Oh yeah, he made a bunch of tapes. They're in my closet." I casually asked to immediately be shown to these tapes, old maid.
Turns out he hoped somebody would enjoy the music as much as he did. So, we fired up the tape machine and posted every single one to give him the internet radio show he never knew he wanted—because he died before it was invented, obviously.
